Fishing

Our Location is on the north shore of the beautiful Upper Fox River in Winnebago County, about twenty-five hundred feet below the first dam up the river from Oshkosh and Lake Winnebago. The Fox River starts at Portage and runs north-east to Lake Winnebago, then on to Green Bay. Because of the direction the river flows the water is warmer than other rivers in the area. This makes ideal conditions for the spawning runs. The fish feel this warm water current and move along it and out of Lake Winnebago and up the Fox to the Dam. After They leave the Lake it takes about seventy two hours or three days before we can expect to catch any of them here, except for the ones that remain here year around.
When they reach the dam area they are tired and hungry so they stay for a time to feed and rest. This is an ideal spot for all the fish to do this because there is an abundance of oxygen in the water. While they stop here to rest and feed the angler has an ideal chance to catch a trophy fish, or the limit of whatever fish might be here in abundance at any particular time.
Fishing Season is open year around in the Winnebagoland waters. Check your Current Fishing Regulations. Whether you plan a vacation of fishing or a few hours of any one day, WE provide the place to do it.
The Walleye Pike, Northern Pike start up river either under the ice or just as it goes out. This is generally in March. The Perch, Crappies, White Bass come in April & May. By the middle of May most of the 52 species of fresh water fish are in the area. The Channel Catfish come the last of April and are here well into the summer. They weigh up to 25 lbs. The Blue Catfish and the Flat Head or the Mississippi Bullhead are caught in June and July. The Mississippi Cat weighs up to 60 or 70 lbs. in ours waters. The average catch is 10 to 30 lbs.
The Fox River below the Eureka Dam has made a name for itself every spring. The TV and radio sports people give reports about the fishing. The major newspapers carry articles and the sports magazines have very favorable and interesting stories on the fishing experiences that you might have if you come to the Fox.
